Apple relies heavily on Chinese manufacturing, and human rights reports have identified forced Uyghur labour is being used in Apple’s supply chain.

The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act would mandate U.S. companies to guarantee not to use imprisoned or coerced workers from the Muslim region of Xinjiang, where academic researchers estimated more than 1 million people were detained by the Chinese Communist Government.

According to congressional staffs, Apple is one of many U.S. companies that oppose this bill. Apart from Apple, more than 80 companies have been found to use materials made by Uyghur forced labour, including Adidas, H&M, Puma, Uniqlo and Nike.
